To kick off 2015, we interviewed artist, writer and mother of one Lily Mae Martin. Lily's incredible drawings and paintings have been exhibited all over the world and focus on portraiture and the human form. A drawing of her daughter Anya is included in the current group exhibition Intersection – The Art of Motherhood at Red Gallery in Melbourne.

Lily’s daughter Anya was born in Wales and the family moved to Berlin when she was just six months old, making her quite the intrepid toddler. Emma sent her noisy family to the park so we could sit at her kitchen bench and chat about making art, having babies in a foreign country and talking to kids about death.

In this episode, we mention writer Penny Russon and Rachel Power's book Motherhood and Creativity: The Divided Heart, in which Lily is interviewed.

Tina Shaw seems to have achieved that elusive work/life balance so many of us strive for, despite starting her mothering journey via a fairly drastic detour through the wilderness of post-natal depression. In this episode we talk about flexible workplaces that support parents with young families (and what that really means), whether or not teaching your kid to be bilingual is worth the effort, what to say to support a friend or family member through PND, and compare our toddler's best tantrum performances.

If you feel that you or someone you know may be suffering from post-natal depression, talk to your doctor or Maternal Health Nurse, or you can call the National Perinatal Depression Hotline on 1300 726 306 or visit www.panda.org.au for more information.
